Real World Results in Education

Lauren Hortie, co-educator at the TDSB Alt School OSF, talks here about how her school achieves an almost 100% success rate each year in graduating at-risk students.

From the Oasis Skateboard Factory, a unique alternative high school program for disengaged youth that sees students build and sell skateboards, running their own small business. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.

What Lauren says during this Ted Talks is a meaningful and humble approach to how she changes student's lives forever by giving them a purpose for learning, a project they can believe in and the means by which to make it happen.

This school operates on a tiny budget. However using an innovative business approach, they self-fund their skateboard build projects adding another level to the student real world education experience. Branding, self-promotion and marketing are an important part of the program.
